About Us

In our ancestral culture, the brotherhood between the sun and the moon allowed us to see beyond darkness. Understanding their complementarity made it possible to create day and night, light and shadow; scenarios in which each took on a leading role. Yet there is a moment of integration and perfect harmony in which both can shine and coexist, where light and shadow create a story of singular beauty. Menguante is the phase in which the moon is visible during the day, where the protagonists of light and shadow coexist in the same space, celebrating the beauty of the interaction between two elements. Menguante is the story of the complementarity of opposites — Sun and Moon, Light and Shadow — that allows coexistence and the creation of something unique. This expression of complementarity is reflected in the art of lighting, where objects and an interplay of light and shadow create an atmosphere that gives each space personality and a unique character. Menguante's sculptural pieces are works of art whose purpose is to elevate and give status to the surroundings in which they are placed. Representing an innovative tradition and evoking a distinctive notion of design is embedded in the DNA of every piece.

“We are an innovative tradition.”

Menguante is a project that rescues Colombian artisanal techniques and brings them into the world of lighting. Menguante's concepts are light and shadow, creating a common thread through a process of researching the country's traditional craftsmanship, where the brand finds its essence. The exploration of traditional and native objects, made from raw materials provided by nature such as clay, stone and metal, comes together to capture light and create “sculptures of light.” Menguante develops atmospheres that invite the user to experience feelings and emotions through the light and shadow emitted by these timeless pieces.

And lowering them again, I see the earth watered with rivers and springs, filled with men, beasts and living things, all striving to perpetuate their kind: contemplating all the beauty and immutable order it holds within itself, and observing fertile nature · LEÓN ARROYAL

In a world blinded by light, people lived without knowing the beauty that surrounded them. A dazzling white light overshadowed everything around them, leaving only simple forms and meaningless objects in sight. A blinding brightness gradually deprived people of beauty and aesthetics. But it had not always been this way. Before this, people lived in darkness, possessed by a blindness that was entirely black. They lived in constant fear of life because of the endless darkness that surrounded them. Tired of living with such uncertainty, they decided to create the world they now inhabited — one entirely white. Yet a widespread feeling of unease was inevitable, as living in such a strident world made them realize that darkness was an essential element of beauty. They understood that the beauty emerging from everyday reality could be found in the nuances of shadow and subdued light. And so, people began to create a world where mystery and beauty could reign, adding shadows and chiaroscuro to that overwhelming brightness, which gradually began to soften.

Thus, they created a world steeped in a mysterious beauty shaped by the magic of shadows, as if drawn from nothingness. This beauty created an enigmatic atmosphere, bringing a warm sense of calm and a unique tranquility to everyday life. They agreed that objects were not beautiful in themselves, but became beautiful through the light contrasted against them, which in turn formed a universe of chiaroscuro. People had forgotten that darkness had once existed; that it was the indispensable source of beauty, and that without it they inhabited an empty nothingness. Their new world became the expression of a unique aesthetic ideal, where objects were embraced by an intimate relationship between light and shadow.
